Hmmmm....

QPR 0-1 Norwich

Perhaps a tad harshly, QPR were again booed from the field following their 3rd defeat in 4 games, this time to relegation threatened, Norwich

I don't want to go on too much about it, but since the announcement of next years Season Ticket prices, the mood amongst QPR fans has been lethargic to say the least and was certainly the case with the many I spoke to tonight. Ironically, since the announcement, two straight defeats have followed against teams who are fighting relegation.

In truth, Rangers didn't deserve to be beaten tonight and despite dominating in possession, were caught out in the 68th minute when some crazy defending led to Stewart playing the ball to Gorkss, who was then robbed by Hoolahan, who in turn lined up Russell, who's shot should've been dealt with by Cerny, but due to the slippery conditions, the ball squirmed away from his grasp and bobbled into the net.

Previously, QPR had dominated the game in which Norwich were awarded a first-half penalty before the referee reversed his decision, which brought great entertainment with the chant of 'there's only one lino' from the R's fans. In my opinion, it was a nailed on penalty. Helguson missed yet another sitter in the first minute, firing wide when clear on goal following good work from Blackstock. He missed a second sitter in the second half, somehow heading wide Delaney's excellent cross from the left.

Kaspars Gorkss missed a great chance late on, failing to get any kind of power on a header from Ephraim's cross. But as mentioned, despite dominating in possession, Rangers lacked that killer touch in the final third and Norwich hung on for a valuable, but undeserved three points.

QPR: Cerny, Delaney, Stewart, Leigertwood, Routledge, Blackstock, Gorkss (Hall 87), Connolly, Miller (Ephraim 68), López, Helguson (Di Carmine 74). Subs: Mahon, Alberti.

Lofty's Man of the Match - Jordi López

Although disappointed, I can't really believe how we lost this one. At times, Rangers played some good football but a lack of goals is costing us dearly and we need to start putting our chances away, Heidar Helguson take note please. On a positive note, Jordi López had a decent home debut and looks a very promising signing for us.

As mentioned, the final whistle brought more boos from the home crowd, perhaps unfairly on this occasion in my opinion, but despite the majority of the team trudging off the field without acknowledging the fans, I was warmed to see a dejected Damion Stewart, having to literally be dragged from the pitch by the QPR backroom staff. It's kind of nice to know that someone cares...

Sounds like a fair review from the text comms and a bit of radio 5 I caught. Being positive, we'll still finish top half and with a bit of luck will keep lopez. Next season, I reckon we'll see a striker from somewhere, and with rowly, buzz and vine back we have th mkings of a top two team.

Aikido - i agree what you say about next season, but seriously, with the current tciket price increase, the fans need to be pacified now but it seems the season is just going to fizzle out...

bobo - thank you! Surprisingly enough, reports are sometimes much easier to write when the result is bad, but not something I wish to continue...

I don't know what to say after last night. Season ticket announcement I had faith that Bhatia was gonig to be some sort of fans saviour and annouce either a drop in prices or change in the whole structure, seems none of that. The club must be gutted at the time of the earlybird maishot that's gone out!
On the pitch, I feel for Helguson as the effort he puts in is clear for all to see & quaadruple what Blackstock offers (take whatever money anyone offers for him!).
Sousa will be a good manager but he's got the team playing different shapes & looking uncomfortable. 2 up last night, great, but go with a flat midfield 4 Paulo. Ephraim should have played instead of Miller, and could have helped Delaney make better progress down the left!
    Lopez was the only plus.
Still we could and should have easily won this game. We need to build for next season, invest in the summer in all areas not just up front. WHat a bonus it will be with Buzasky & Vine back!

Thanks Anon - I think you have Helguson and Blackstock mixed up mind you...

I agree with your comments about Sousa, but hearing from a reliable source on Saturday, that the lemon that is Briatore was going to sack him after the Ipswich game, worries me somewhat...

QPR should give paolo sousa a fair run, because players tend to play and react better when there's stability (look at liverpool, and alex fergusion took awile to get going at Man U.).
Also at the momment the R's are without the goal scoring threat of Rowlands, Buzzy, Vine & Aggie (makes you think doesn't it).
Flavio should stop getting itchy fingers, and get a true goalscorer - would be nice wouldn't it!!!!

Thanks for your frank report about more lost opportunities. Sounds a bit like same old, same old! Where will the goals come from?

Have been doing some statistical research of the scoring frequency of current midfield and forward players (for whom I could find the info)over the last three seasons. With 4-5-1, the best goal tally we can expect is around 45 to 55 goals per season, assuming Rowly plays 46 games, otherwise the tally reduces by about 8 goals. Playing 4-4-2, with Rowly playing about 70percent of games, we might manage 50 to 60 goals at best. Whichever way you look at it we do not have the proven firepower necessary to get us into the top 2 or even top 4 places. And 4-5-1 without Rowly and with current regulars looks dire. For 4-5-1 to work properly, we would need about 3 midfielders with Rowly's scoring frequency to get us the 70 or more goals in the season to stand a chance of reaching the top 2.

Am up for Sheff Utd on Saturday, I am not expecting a goal feast from the Rs, but a win would be nice.
